Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): No Spark, briggs and stratton, fly wheel

Question
QUESTION: I have a Briggs and Stratton 5HP (Model-130292, Type-089501, Code-80011806) and it has no fire. I replaced the ignition coil, points and condenser, spark plug, and gapped all to spec. I cleaned the fly wheel and the magnet is strong. It still has no spark. Any idea on where to look next would be appreciated, Thanks a lot.

ANSWER: Hello Rodney:

Did you Clean the Contacts before Installing the Point Set? If No, then the Protective Film that is on the Contacts can be Causing the Point Set Not to Fire. Does the Engine Fire if the Shut Off Wire at the Coil/Magneto is Disconnected? Thanks. You can View a Breakdown/IPL of this Engine at this Site Addy, http://www.smallenginepartswarehouse.com/parts.asp and Select the Shop Online Parts Look Up. Then Select the Model Tab. Then Select the OEM and Enter the Model and Type Numbers (first 4 digits Only). Then Double Click on the Model in the Results Area. Now you can Select the Section of the Engine you Wish to View. If you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem,  I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. Thanks.

QUESTION: Thanks for the quick reply John. I did clean the point contacts before installation. The problem I found is I am not getting any voltage from the coil/magneto to the spark plug. I figured that my coil was bad and needed to be replaced. I replaced the condenser and points because of the age of the engine(1980), kind of preventive maintenance. I installed a brand new coil and I still get nothing from the main wire from the coil, I feel sure that my gap is correct between the coil and fly wheel. I'm not a mechanic but I usually can figure out most problems from repair books to online information, but I guess I'm missing something. Thanks for your time.

Answer
Hello Again Rodney:

The Coil and Point Set are Both Gapped to .020in. If you Disconnect the Coil Shut Off Wire from the Coil and the Plug Does Not Fire, then Either the Point Set Contacts are Not Making Contact, the Condensor is Bad in the New Point Set, the New Coil is Bad or you have a Safety Switch that is Preventing the Coil from Firing the Plug. If you Disconnect the Condensor from the Point Set Does the Plug Fire? If Yes, then the Condensor is Bad. It is Not Unusal to Purchase New Parts that are Bad Right Out of the Box. If you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem,  I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. Thanks.
