Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Aerosol Carburetor Cleaner, protective rubber gloves, internal passages

Question
John,
From your posts, I see you have little use for spray carburetor cleaners. Until a couple of years ago, I shared your opinion. I came across an aerosol carburetor cleaner that I think will change your opinion of spray cleaners. I would like you to try it and see if you agree. You can find this cleaner at Auto Zone. It is an Auto Zone brand “Valucraft Carb Cleaner” Part Number: AZ-4, 13 ounces in a yellow and black aerosol can with a red plastic cap. It sells for $1.60 to $2.50 per can. I have been very successful in cleaning carburetors often without removing them from the engine. I have not had many carburetors I could not clean. Sometimes I use the entire can. At the price it sells for, so what.

For severely varnished carburetors there is no substitute for disassembly and use of an immersion carburetor cleaner.

Warning - You do not want to get this stuff in your eyes or on your skin. Use a full-face shield for eye and face protection. Wear protective rubber gloves. The cleaner will damage rubber so remove rubber carburetor parts to prevent damage.

Answer
Hello Stan:

Thanks for the Information on the Carburetor Cleaner. I will Give it a Try. I Stopped Using Spray Cleaners because Most that I Tried Simply Loosened the Varnish and the Loosened Varnish Simply Restricted the Internal Passages and Ports of the Carburetor. I Found it Easier and Simplier to Remove and Soak the Carburetors to be Sure they were Clean. I am having the Parts Clerk Pick Some up Today and I will Follow Up to you in a Few days on How I Think the Cleaner Performs. Thanks Again and if you have Anymore Suggestions or Helpful Tips, Please Feel Free to Let me Know. I am Always Looking for Input. Till Next Time. May All Your Mechanical Problems be SMALL ONES and May the All Mighty Bless You and Yours. Thanks Again.
