Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Old Snapper rear engine rider, 4 digits, engine mod

Question
My 15.5 H.P. original 12 H.P. Briggs I?C finally died.  I purchased a new 15.5 hp engine Mod. 28N777.  The question is on wiring.  There are two modular plugs by the starter.  One is Probaly the alternator with a ground.  The other one is a ground and a wire leading to the carburator.  How do I get power to these leads, the snapper I have is old with handlebars, key switch center below the handlebars.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Charlie

Answer
Hello Charlie:

Depending on the Model, you May have to Change the Ign Switch. The Alternator Does Not have a Ground Wire Coming from it. You Most Likely have the Alternator/Stator that has a Lead to Power the Lights on Some Mowers and a Lead to Charge the Battery. The Light Lead will Not be Required Unless you have Installed Lights on your Mower. The Light Lead Charges Less than the Battery Lead. Purchase an Assortment of Wire Connectors and Match the Required Connector that Matches One of the Leads from the Alternator/Stator. Usually this is the Double Connector at the Starter. Use a Test Meter and Connect the Battery Charging Lead to this Wire. Tape the Connection so it Will Not Seperate. The Coil/Magneto Lead is Usually a Single Lead and Connects to the Lead that is Grounded "ONLY" when the Ign Switch is in the Off Position. The Carburetor Anti-Diesel Solenoid Lead is Connected to the Ign Switch on a Terminal that is Hot when the Ign Switch is in the RUN Position. You can View a Breakdown/IPL of this Engine at this Site Addy, http://www.smallenginepartswarehouse.com/parts.asp and Select the Shop Online Parts Look Up. Then Select the Model Tab. Then Select the OEM and Enter the Model (28N777) and Type Numbers (XXXX; first 4 digits ONLY). Then Double Click on the Model in the Results Area. Now you can Select the Section of the Engine you Wish to View. If you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem, then I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. Thanks.

Good Luck
