Question
Hi my name is Jeff,
I have a Montgomery Ward riding mower with model number 400707. Can you tell me the color coding for the ignition wiring. My wiring has color; 1 green, 1 yellow, 1 black and 2 red. can you tell me which one goes to Magneto, Battery, Light, Starter and Ground. thanks you very much.

Answer
Hello Jeff:

Sorry for the Delay. This Question was Located in the Question Pool. This Mower was Manufactured by MTD for Montgomery Wards. You can View a Breakdown/IPL of this Mower at this Site Addy, http://www.smallenginepartswarehouse.com/parts.asp and Select the Shop Online Parts Look Up. Then Select the OEM (MTD). Then Select the Montgomery Wards File. Then Select Garden Tractors. Then Select the Mower # 1440845H088. The Ign Switch Should have Letters Beside Each Lug. Y for Yellow, R for Red and ect. Most Wiring for MTD Mowers are the Same. The Yellow is the Safety Switch System, the Reds are Charging and Lights, the Green is the Starter Solenoid Wire and the Black is Usually the Lead from the Fuse and Amp Meter. I Usually Test All the Leads and Make Sure they are Correctly Color Coded. If you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem, then I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. Thanks.

Good Luck
