Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Stihl ms290 chainsaw, stihl chainsaw, decent shape

Question
About a year ago I acquired a stihl chainsaw model ms290 from a guy just passing by my house. (I always have many mowers and blowers sitting next to my garage that I repair and do light maintenance on for friends and family.)He told me a repair center had told him the motor had seized and the saw was junk.   with nothing to loose he asked if I would look at it,within 2 days the motor was free again with 80 lbs of compression. Here is my question, the saw has compression and spark but won't fire, I've even gone so far as to squirt starting fluid into spark plug hole to make sure it is getting fuel and still no fire,am I overlooking something or is this saw really junk? The guy never returned for the saw so I figure after a year it's probably mine so I'm not afraid to put a little money into it, I just don't want it to turn into a lot of money. Any suggestions would be appreciated, thanks for your time. Skip

Answer
THe compression is too low to run.  The saw should have at least 90 psi to run.

Those saws cost around $300.00.  If the saw is in good cosmetic condition, the bar and chain are in decent shape, it may be worth replacing the cylinder jug and piston.
Let me know if this helps.
