Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): How to install Spring-Air Vane..., metal tab, plug hole

Question
QUESTION: Hey Eric:

I am completely frustrated.  A year ago my Troy-Bilt mower powered by a B&S (Quantum 120000, model series 125K00) up and stopped and would not restart.  I bungeed the bail control so I could mess with the engine and discovered that the air vane or autochoke arm (part #790848)was not regulating what I would assume would be fuel flow.  It seemed to me the engine was getting flooded.  Regardless I jerry-rigged the air-vane so it would run and I had it working.  However, I wanted a permanent fix so I took the engine apart to a degree (I am somewhat mechanically inclined) and realized that there were two possible culprits to why the air-vane arm was not doing its job.  First, I did not find the spring that is supposed to be there (according to the IPL, part # 790849) and second, it may have worked it self loose from the thermostat on the muffler which looks like it helps control the air-vane.  Anyway, I know how to put the muffler / thermostat piece back together but I ordered the air-vane spring and now can't figure out how that attaches in the engine.  I have searched for diagrams or schematics and cannot find anything to instruct me on how to install this spring.  Can you help?

Thanks...Jason

ANSWER: Send me the engine type number so I can look up the IPL.  Is the air vane for the choke?

Send me the type number.

QUESTION: The engine number is 125K02-0389-E1  That is then followed by spaces then 0412065.

Also the air vane is for the autochoke system.

Thanks again.

Answer
On the air vane there is a small pointy piece that points toward the front of the engine, toward the spark plug hole.

Next to the ignition coil there is a small metal ear/tab.  The spring connects to the pointy piece on the air vane and the metal tab next to the coil.
Does this help?
