Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Honda GC160 Wont Run, honda gc160, hose clamps

Question
I have a Honda GC160 engine that wouldn't start, I disassembled the
carburetor and cleaned it, it will now start and run 3-4 seconds and stop,
only if throttle set low and choke off. It will not restart unless I let engine sit
for 5 minutes, then once again it will only run for 3-4 seconds. It appears the
engine is not getting sufficient fuel and will only run on the gas in the
carburetor bowl, could this be a fuel pump issue, or what else should I
check. Would soaking the fuel pump in carburetor cleaner help. How much is
a fuel pump, should I just replace it? Is it typical for a fuel pump to go out.
The engine sat for 2 years without use, gas had long gone bad (did drain gas
and replace with new gas and Seafoam).

Answer
Hello Thomas:

Did you Soak the Carburetor Overnight in Carburetor Cleaner when you Cleaned it? If Not, then the Carburetor is Still Dirty and the Gas is Restricted to the Main Jet. Check the Vacuum Hose for the Fuel Pump and Replace the Spring Type Hose Clamps with the Screw Type Hose Clamps. A Slight Leak in the Vacuum Line will Cause the Pump to Bleed Back to the Tank. I Would Disassemble the Fuel Pump and Clean (Do Not Soak) it with Spray Carburetor Cleaner and Compressed Air. You can View a Breakdown/IPL of the Mower/Engine at this Site Addy, http://hayward.arinet.com/scripts/EmpartISAPI.dll?MF&app=ASP&lang=EN&TF=Mainfram... and Select the Catalog American Honda. Hope this Helps. I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Let me Know What Happens, Please. Thanks.
