Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Lawn Boy Model 10335 ser: 200001557, small block chevy, automatic tranny

Question
I just rebuilt the carb on this unit and it was successful. There is one problem I noticed before the carb went South. The governor did not seem to work. It does start, in the open position then reverts to the "idle screw setting" but there is not increase in engine RPM upon load (tall grass).  I believe it is working but I cannot find a "happy medium" between it working correctly or staying wide open. Is there a process for the adjustment? I did get it to a point where it would "bounce" idle (rev then idle at a given rate). Is there a procedure for the exact adjustment. Many thanks from an old small block chevy builder from the "Good old days" of drag racing.

Answer
Hello Joel:

Did you Reconise My Name? LOL. Old Chevy Drag Racer too. 69 Chevelle SS 427, 14 1/2:1 Compression, with a Build Turbo 400 Automatic Tranny and 488 Rear. Anyways I Regress. Here are the Instructions for Setting the Governor. To Reset the Governor; Loosen the Governor Arm Bolt and Turn the Governor Shaft Clockwise Until it Stops. Using the Governor Arm Hold the Carburetor to Full Throttle. Now with the Governor Shaft Held Full Clockwise and the Governor Arm and Carburetor Held at Full Throttle, Tighten the Governor Arm Bolt. If the Engine Still Runs Full Throttle, then Reverse the Rotation of the Governor Shaft, but Still Hold the Carburetor at Full Throttle with the Governor Arm. If it Still Runs at Full Throttle, then Check the Internal Governor. Hope this Helps. I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Let me Know What Happens, Please. Thanks.

Good Luck
