Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Gravely model L, oil level, buell

Question
Just bought a 1952 model L and downloaded a manual for it.  Manual says check oil level by "first making sure tractor is level", then opening valve near the bottom and pour in oil through feed opening until it starts pouring out through the valve.  My question is: what do they mean by "level", since when the tractor is at rest, it slopes down by about 35 degrees; or does "level" mean that the bottom is parallel to the ground?

Answer
Hello Buell:

I Just Love those Manuals. LOL. It Means to Level the Tractor so the Engine Sump (Base) is Level. Hope this Helps. I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Let me Know What Happens, Please. Thanks.

Good Luck
