Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Briggs 11hp not charging, snapper rider, engine numbers

Question
Hey folks,
I sure hope someone out there can help me with my problem. Recently I bought a used Briggs 11hp vertical for my rear engine Snapper rider. On the engine that is on the mower now, I have 2 wires coming out from behind the starter. On the blown engine (and the mower) wiring there is only one wire designated for this connection. I have the engine on and running, cutting, idling fine. But when I try to start it I have to boost the battery. The battery is new and I took it back recently for replacement because I thought it was a bad battery. Anyway, I need to know how to connect these wires so that my battery will charge again. If I have to swap out the alternator, how much trouble is that? And how do I do it?lol... Other than that I'm having no serious problems, other than governor adjustment, but that's a whole different topic. I'll figure the governor out, just want to be able to turn the key and crank 'Ol Red' up immediately.
Here's my info:

Answer
Hello Dale:

1- Usually with the 2 Wire Stator, One is for the Headlights (Grey) and the Other (Red) is for Charging the Battery. On the Single Wire Stator, the Headlights Use the Battery for a Power Source. Hook the Single Wire from the Stator to the Red Wire in the Harness that went to the Old Stator and the Battery should Stay Charged. 2- To Use the Old Engines Stator, Remove the Flywheel and Unbolt the Stator and Replace it with the One off the Old Engine. They will Interchange with No Problems. 3- to Set the Governor; To Reset the Governor; Loosen the Governor Arm Bolt and Turn the Governor Shaft Clockwise Until it Stops. Using the Governor Arm Hold the Carburetor to Full Throttle. Now with the Shaft Full Clockwise and the Governor Arm and Carburetor Held at Full Throttle, Tighten the Governor Arm Bolt. If the Engine Still Runs Full Throttle, then Reverse the Rotation of the Governor Shaft, but Still Hold the Carburetor at Full Throttle with the Governor Arm. If it Still Runs at Full Throttle, then Check the Internal Governor. You can View a Breakdown/IPL at this Site Addy, http://www.emerichsales.com/home.asp and Select Shop Online Parts Look Up.
