Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): SAbre Lawn Tractor engine sputtering, briggs stratton engine, briggs stratton

Question
I have a Sabre Lawn Tractor Model 1638H with a Briggs & Stratton Engine Model 28Q777 Type 0662A1 Code 9704032E.  The tractor is now experiencing a problem.

After running for 15 to 30 minutes, it will sputter.  When it sputters, it may or may not stop.  If it doesn't stop, the sputter lasts about a minute before it goes away.  If it does stop and I wait a minute, I can usually start again it normally.  If I don't wait the minute, it may or may not start, and if it starts it usually starts in a sputter.  When I get it to start normally again, it will run for up to 10 minutes again before it exhibits the same sputtering problem.

I've read some of the answers on this forum about sputtering engines and none of them precisely fit my symptoms.

Any ideas on a cause and a fix?
Thanks.

Answer
Hello Dan:

Usually the Problem you Described is the Coil/Armature/Igniter Going Bad, the Carburetor Solenoid is Heating Up and Trying to Restrict the Gas Flow through the Carburetor Jet, the Gas Cap is Not Venting the Gas Tank Properly, the Pickup Tube in the Tank is Getting Restricted with Trash that is Usually in the Bottom of the Tank and is Restricting the Gas Flow to the Carburetor or the Valves Require Adjusting. With a Problem like this One, I Suggest you Check the Carburetor Solenoid First, then Set the Valves, then Check the Pickup Tube in the Gas Tank and Finally Replace the Armature. You can View a Breakdown/IPL of this Engine at this Site Addy, http://www.smallenginepartswarehouse.com/parts.asp and Select the Shop Online Parts Look Up. Then Select the Model Tab. Then Select the OEM and Enter the Model and Type Numbers. Then Double Click on the Model in the Results Area. Now you can Select the Section of the Engine you Wish to View. Hope this Helps. I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Let me Know What Happens, Please. Thanks.

Good Luck
