Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): re: Toro Wheelhorse Overheating, wheelhorse, gas tank

Question
Hi, I have a 1990 model 210 Toro Wheelhorse riding mower with a hydrostatic 10 hb BS engine.   Starts fine, mows great for about 30 minutes.  Than the PTO bogs down and the engine trys to die.  With the PTO off the engine runs fine for a few more minutes.  After about 20 minutes the engine begins to overheat.  I have changed the oil and installed 10w30 synthtic oil, helped a little but it still overheats.  Help my grass is getting out of hand.
Thanks,
Charles

Answer
Hello Charles:

Check the Gas Tank Cap and Ensure it is Venting the Tank. When a Vacuum Builds in the Tank it Restricts the Gas Flow to the Carburetor. Under Certain Conditions, the Gas Through the Jet is Less than Required and the Engine Struggles to Maintain Power Causing the Engine to Over Heat. Also, the Coil/Ign Module/Igniter May be Breaking Down when Heated. The Flywheel Key Being Damaged will Also Cause this Problem. I Suggest you; 1- Check the Gas Tank Cap. 2- Check the Exhaust for Carbon Blockage. 3- Check the Coil/Ign Module/Igniter. This will Require a Shop with a Coil/Ign Module.Igniter Tester. 4- Check the Flywheel Key. Hope this Helps. I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Let me Know What Happens, Please. Thanks.

Good Luck
