Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Tecumseh Lawn mover, lawn mover, tecumseh engine

Question
I have cleaned out the gas tank, replaced the carburetor and I still have problems with my mower. It's over accelerated and dies out.22" lawn mover model no. 20016. It's a 6.5 engine.  Your help would greatly be appreciated.

Answer
Hello Atzael:

Send me the Model and Type Numbers Off the Engine, Please. With these I can Locate the Proper Manual and Better Assist you. Did you Remove or Loosen the Governor Arm from the Governor Shaft when you Replaced the Carburetor? If Yes, then Reset the Governor. To Reset the Governor; Loosen the Governor Arm Bolt and Turn the Governor Shaft Clockwise Until it Stops. Using the Governor Arm Hold the Carburetor to Full Throttle. Now with the Shaft Full Clockwise and the Governor Arm and Carburetor Held at Full Throttle, Tighten the Governor Arm Bolt. If the Engine Still Runs Full Throttle, then Reverse the Rotation of the Governor Shaft, but Still Hold the Carburetor at Full Throttle with the Governor Arm. If it Still Runs at Full Throttle, then Check the Internal Governor. Since this is a Tecumseh Engine, I have a PDF Site Addy that May Assist you Also. http://www.tecumsehpower.com/CustomerService/BSI.pdf When the Engine RPMs Reach a Certain Point the Carburetor can Not Handle the Amount of Gas Required by the Engine and it will Either Surge (Hunt) or Quit as in your Case. Hope this Helps. I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Let me Know What Happens, Please. Thanks.

Good Luck
