Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): 8 hp briggs, ohv engines, hp briggs

Question
Can you tell me how much compression a 8hp briggs lawnmower should have to run good.. I only have 30 lbs & do not have much power, thank you

Answer
Hello Ray:

It Sounds like you have an Easy Start Engine. It Requires 80psi Minimum for a Gas Engine to Fire and Run. On the Easy Start and OHV Engines there is a Compression Release that Interferes with the Compression Sequence. You have to Check the Compression with the Push Tubes or Tappets Disabled. The OEM Suggested Way to Check Compression on an Easy Start or OHV Engine is to Turn the Engine Sharply in the Reverse Direction o Engine Operation. If the Engine Kicks Back, then the Compression is Supposed to be Good. Send me the Model and Type Numbers Off the Engine, Please. With these I can Locate the Proper Manual and Better Assist you. Hope this Helps. I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Let me Know What Happens, Please. Thanks.

Good Luck
