Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Ariens / Tecumseh Replacement Follow Up, self tapping screws, application engine

Question
John,
In your previous response you mentioned that the shaft did not have splines...I took a photo to show you how the shaft looks...the link is http://img341.imageshack.us/my.php?image=029el6.jpg

Having seen this, do you still feel that a "standard" engine will work as a replacement?
thank you.

Answer
Hi Steve:

Nope. You are Correct. This is Not a Standard Crankshaft. It is A Special Application Crankshaft. I Will Call my Contact at Tecumseh and Question Her on the Breakdown I Used and Inquire About the Replacement Engine from Her. Sorry for the Mistake. I Will Send you a Follow Up Answer within 72 Hrs. Thanks for the Photo. It Really Helped.

Hi Steve:

Here we Go. This was a Special Application Engine. There is No Replacement Engine for the VLV50. However, if you Purchase an Engine with a 7/8" Crankshaft with a Single Keyway; the Adapter  #01121700 is Used to Replace the Old Adapter. If the New Engine has a 7/8" Crankshaft with 2 Keyways, then the Adapter Kit  #51109000 is Required. If the Engine is a 1" Crankshaft, then you have to have a 2 Piece Adapter and 2 Self Tapping Screws to Assemble the Adapter for Use. The Adapter Pieces are #'s 01131500 , 01131600 and the Screws are #07406600. These are All Ariens Parts Numbers. Hope this Helps. I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Let me Know What Happens, Please. Thanks.

Good Luck
