Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Motor runs, shuts off, starts back up, hp kohler, proper manuals

Question
QUESTION: I have a 17 hp Kohler. Starts up and runs fine for 15 min. then shuts off, starts right back up and runs for 10 or 15 mins and shuts off, and continues to do so. any suggestions?
thanks

ANSWER: Hello James:

Does it Shut Off like you Turned Off the Switch or Does it Rev Up and Down and then Shut Off? Send me the Model and Type Numbers Off the Engine and the Mower Model Numbers, Please. With these I can Locate the Proper Manuals and Better Assist you. However, if this Engine has a Fuel Pump, then Replace the Clamps on the Vaccum Lines. The Spring Type Clamps Lose Tension and Allow a Leak in the Vaccum Line. Check the Tank and Ensure it is Clean. If Trash gets Sucked to the Outlet Port it will Slowly Restrict the Gas Flow to the Carburetor and When the Engine Quits the Gas Back Flows and Flushes the Outlet Port. Check the Gas Tank Cap and Ensure it is Venting the Tank Properly. Depending on the Model Mower, a Relay May be Going Bad or a Circuit Breaker May be Heating Up and Causing the Poer to the Carburetor Solenoid to Shut Off the Gas Flow to the Jet. The Model Numbers will Assist me to Assist you. Sometimes the Coil/Magneto.Ign Module will Cause this Also. Hope this Helps. I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Let me Know What Happens, Please. Thanks.

Good Luck

QUESTION: John
Thanks for your help, thought you might get a kick out of this.  Took the gas tank off to clean it out.  While doing so, found a baby bottle inside, seems to run pretty good now.  Will have to keep a closer eye on my neice from now on.  thanks again.

Answer
Hi James:

LOL  That's a First. I've Seen Rags, Baby Shoes, Pacifiers, Under Wear and Such; Never a Baby Bottle. I'll Add it to my List of Unusal Items Found in Gas Tanks. Thanks for the Update. Till Next Time. May All Your Mechanical Problems be SMALL ONES and May the All Mighty Bless You and Yours. Thanks Again.

Best Wishes and Good Luck
