ANSWER: Hello Mason:

If the Oil is Pushing Into the Fuel Pump Vaccum Hose, then this is Usually a Sign that the Head Gasket is Blown Between the Compression Chamber and the Valve Stem Chamber. Check the Head Gasket First. You can View a Breakdown/IPL of this Engine at this Site Addy, http://www.smallenginepartswarehouse.com/parts.asp and Select the Shop Online Parts Look Up. Then Select the Model Tab. Then Select the OEM and Enter the Model and Type Numbers. Then Double Click on the Model in the Results Area. Now you can Select the Section of the Engine you Wish to View. QUESTION: John,

Thanks for your quick reply. I have never repaired car or engine mower in my life. I usually do basic things such as oil and filter change. How complicated is it to repair head gasket and would you happen to know how much a repair shop for charge on avg to fix the problem?

Thanks, Mason
ANSWER: Hello Again Mason:

It takes Longer to Reassemble the Head to the Engine than to Remove it. I Usually get $45.00us @hr for Labor. Depending on the Mower and How the Engine is Mounted that Determines the Time to Perform the Repair. If the Head can be Removed from the Engine Without Removing the Engine from the Frame, then the Labor at My Shop is $90.00us Plus Parts, Accessories and Tax. Have you Looked at the Breakdown for the Cylinder Head at the Site Addy I Provided? Hope this Helps. I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Let me Know What Happens, Please. Thanks.

QUESTION: Hi John,

I did review the site that you provided. how does it look if the cylindar head gasket is blown? Are there any pictures I can review? I checked the engine and noticed there were some oil leak from the OHV cover. Some of the bolts were somewhat loose and I thightend them. Do you think this might have fixed the problem?

Mason

Answer
Hi Mason:

If the Head Bolts were Loose and you Tightened them and the Engine is Operating Properly Again, then you have Corrected the Problem. If the Engine Runs the Same and has the Oil Problem, then the Loose Head Bolts were Not Causing the Problem. The Burnt/Bad Section of the Head Gasket will be Brownish or Black and can Sometimes even have Some of the Gasket Material Missing. Hope this Helps. I am Here if You Require More Assistance.
