Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): 42 Craftsman Wont Reverse, craftsman 917, shift linkage

Question
I have a Craftsman 917.271141 with Hydro Gr 314-0510 Tarnsaxle.  The tractor has stopped going in reverse.  This problem has advanced over time but now will not move even at full reverse.  Motion control level also requires greater forward movement to get things moving.  I have replaced the motion drive belt.  Next option to look at?

Answer
Hello Steve:

Have you Checked the Shift Linkage? You can View a Breakdown/IPL of this Hydro at this Site Addy, http://www.outdoordistributors.com/ and Select the H. Then Select Hydro-Gear. Then Select Don't have Part Numbers. Then Enter the Model Numbers (314-0510). Download the PDF File for Online Viewing. Look at the Control Arm. Has the Arm Slipped? Try Adjusting the Linkage. Is the Transaxle Mounting Bolts Tight? Is the Frame Broken? Usually the Problem you Described is the Mount Bolts are Loose or the Linkage Requires Adjusting. Hope this Helps. I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Let me Know What Happens, Please. Thanks.

Good Luck
