Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Carb Adjust on JD RX75 with Kaw/Mikuni, john deere rx75 riding mower, john deere rx75

Question
Mother will be 80 in two weeks and uses a John Deere RX75 Riding mower for 1/2 acre of lawn. To get it started, neighbor comes over, pulls the plug, cleans it (somehow), and the mower then starts.
I bought a new 15003-2437 (the Kawasaki P/N for the JD AM122462) for it. In a week I drive 250 miles to install it and a new Champion RC11YC4 plug, the one recommended in the manual.
What does the screw on the round sheetmetal can on the end do and how do I set it?  Also, there is a screw with a black plastic cap restricting travel to 180 degrees. What does this screw do and how do I set it?
Thanks from me and Mom!

Answer
Sorry you asked the question after you bought the carb.

This is a problem that occurs on virtually every RX out there.

Because of the confinment of this engine caused by the pretty rear cowling this carb dribbles a little gas past the needle when it cools down

All "mom" needs to do is turn the fuel off every time she is done mowing. EVERY TIME.  There is a fuel shutoff valve located directly behind the left rear tire.  It is easy to get to and easy to use.

What you need to do is make the 250 mile trek, because you are a good son, and show her where the valve is.  Don't use a Champion, buy a NGK BPR4ES plug at the local auto parts store, it will make a huge performance difference,  and then return the carb.

To answer your specific question, the screw on the "can" is a drain. It needs to be screwed in tight.  The "limited" screw is an idle adjustment.  You can turn it all you want and it won't make a lick of difference (it's an EPA thing).

Also make sure mom is running the mower at WFO (wide freaking open) all the time. I mean every second, from the time it starts until she shuts it off.

Your really kind of lucky, my mom lives 4 miles away and my 2 brothers live 150 miles away.  I love my mom but getting a call to carry the groceries in gets a little old.

Love you mom !!!!!
