Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Tecumseh Flooding Problem!, ring gaskets, needle valve

Question
SIR - Hello - I just got done rebuilding the carb on an older Tecumseh engine (new main jet needle valve in bottom of bowl, new bowl gasket, new welch plug?, new small O-ring gaskets, new bowl float & float pin). It all went pretty smoothly, all cleaned up, linkage all hooked back up correctly, and put back on mower. Got it started & adjusted, but when I shut it down gas started REALLY pouring from the at the gasket where the air cleaner connects to intake on carb. It wasn't at the needle valve in bottom of the bowl, or at the bowl gasket, but seemed to be originating at the gasket between the air cleaner and the intake on the carb where the choke is. Due to float not being adjusted properly or?  Please help!! Thanks! PS - Don't have a model number on engine, think it's an 8hp, but looks like a typical older Tecumseh carb, air cleaner has "Kleen-Aire" or something like that on it.

Answer
Hello Ben:

When you Replaced the Needle Valve; Did it Allow the Float to Set Level when the Carburetor is Turned Upside Down and the Float is on Top? If No, then Check the Needle Valve Hole for a Small O-Ring and the New Needle for a Rubber Tip. If the O-Ring is Still in the Needle Valve Port and the New Needle has a Rubber Tip, No O-Ring is Used. It Sounds like the Needle Valve is Not Stopping the Gas Flow as Designed. Re-Check the Carburetor Needle Valve. If this is the Old Style Carburetor for Tecumseh, then it Should have had the O-Ring in the Needle Valve Port. Hope this Helps. I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Let me Know What Happens, Please. Thanks.

Good Luck
