Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Roper rider will not shift, transaxle oil, input shaft

Question
QUESTION: I'm working on a Roper LT120AR (12 hp).  When the engine is running, the transmission cannot be shifted.  Here is an example: start engine, place in reverse, let clutch out and backup, depress clutch, shifter is now frozen, shut off engine and shifter moves again.  I've checked with the engine off and the clutch does allow the drive belt to spin free when depressed.  Any ideas?

ANSWER: Hello Bob:

Usually this can be Corrected by Adjusting the Clutch to Release the Belt Just a Small Amount More than it Releases at this Time. The Engine is Keeping Tension on the Transaxle Pulley and the Tension is Trying to Turn the Transaxle Input Shaft but the Transaxle Brake Prevents it from Turning. If Adjustment Do Not Correct the Problem, then Check the Transaxle Oil. It Uses SAE 30 Engine Oil. You can View a Breakdown/IPL of this Mower at this Site Addy, http://www.outdoordistributors.com/ and Select the A. Then Select AYP. Then Select Don't have Part Numbers. Then Enter the Model Numbers LT120AR. Then Select the File for Download. Hope this Helps. I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Let me Know What Happens, Please. Thanks.

QUESTION: Thanks...I am embarrassed to say...I can't find the oil plug for the transaxle.  I looked at the link you supplied, but no joy.  Can you give me a hint on where to look?

Answer
Hello Again Bob:

No Worries. From Reviewing the Breakdown, I See this is a Factory Sealed Transaxle. Therefore, there is No Fill Plug. Is there Sogns that the Transaxle has been Leaking Fluid Excessively? If Not, then the Cause for this Problem May be the Clutch Keys (#19 on page 26 of 28) are Binding. Hope this Helps.
