Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): B&S Piston Disconnected!??, starter cord, connecting rod

Question
I have been given a high quality mower with a B&S Quantum 35 engine (model 100708, type 0123,code 87082805)which the donor could no longer start.  Whilst doing the normal checks, ignition, fuel, etc, I noticed that when the starter cord is pulled the blades rotate but the piston stays stationary!
In your view what is the most common cause of this problem? And is it worth repairing?
thanks in advance,  David

Answer
Hello David:

From your Description, it Sounds like the Connecting Rod has Broken. For a Customer I Usually Suggest a Short Block when this Type of Damage Occurs. You can View a Breakdown/IPL of this Engine at this Site Addy, http://www.smallenginepartswarehouse.com/parts.asp and Select the Shop Online Parts Look Up. Then Select the Model Tab. Then Select the OEM and Enter the Model Numbers. Then Double Click on the Model in the Results Area. Now you can Select the Section of the Engine you Wish to View. Hope this Helps. I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Let me Know What Happens, Please. Thanks.

Good Luck
