Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): locating govenor in L120, l120, john force

Question
I was wondering where the governor is in my john Deere L120. i want to take it out for my own purposes. Is it also possible to put it back? And yeah, pretty much: where is it and how do i get that sucker out of there.

thanks
Tomas

Answer
The governor is inside the engine block.  You can remove and install if you wish, BUT WHY.

Removing a governor won't make the engine have any more power.  It will make the throttle impossible to control.  Your L120 engine will not work without the governor.  At full throttle the carb butterfly is only open about 10%. When the mower needs more power the governor opens the throttle to compensate for the load.  Unless you can "pedal" a Funny Car like John Force you won't be able to keep this engine running.  If you open it up to 100% it will suck way to much air for the jets and valves to handle.

There is no reasoon to remove it. It won't mow better it won't have more power.  It will be a useless hunk of aluminum and iron.
