Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): kawasaki, walk behind mower, throttle cable

Question
hello paul, i have a question about my mower.I have a gravely 988114 36 inch walk behind mower with a kawasaki fh381v motor. My question is when i took mower under warranty they said i will need new throttle later now warranty is out.I took it to power equipment dealer. Now when i cut sometimes it is like the throttle will just stop working i can move handle up and down but nothing.i keep messing with it and it will catch. My question is should i buy whole throttle or just the wire. I have found throttle online and it is 35.00 same as one come off of it do u think aftermarket throttle would work.thanks paul for everything u do to help us.

Answer
A throttle cable is a throttle cable.  Who cares who built it.  Normally I say OEM only.  But a throttle cable doesn't really mater.

Only a "tight ass" would buy just the wire.

The wire isn't the problem.  The wire is hanging up in the conduit somewhere,  probably near the exhust header or muffler.

If this is the proble slide a piece of 3/8 fuel line over the cable in that area.  It won't happen again.
