Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): PTO Clutch, john deere 322, mower deck

Question
I have a John Deere 322 tractor. Originally, the problem was that once the PTO clutch heated up if I stopped the mower, I couldn't get the mower deck started again until it cooled off. I took it apart to see if the lead wire was getting crushed- it wasn't. After putting it back together it now overheats and gets very hot. I tried to get into a link that you sent to another person with similar problems, but can't. I need to know how to adjust the PTO Clutch. (I think)

Answer
Hello Ron:

I Just Checked this Site Address; You can View a Breakdown/IPL of the Mower at this Site Addy, http://jdpc.deere.com/jdpc/servlet/com.deere.u90490.partscatalog.view.servlets.H... and Enter the Model Numbers and Click Find. Then Select your Model. Then Select the Sectional File. Then Select the Section of the Mower you Wish to View Online. Select Electrical and then Select the PTO File. You can Adjust Nut #12; 1/4 Turn at a Time Until the PTO Operates Properly. Turn Each of the 4 Nuts (#12) to Keep the Coil Plate as True as Possible and Then Check the PTO. From your Description, it Sounds like the Clutch is Slipping. Adjust the Nuts to Tighten. Hope this Helps. I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Let me Know What Happens, Please. Thanks.

Good Luck
