Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): JD 111 stalls, clutch bearings, electrical problem

Question
I recently acquired a JD 111 tractor that stalls immediately after engaging the electric pto- it does not spit or sputter. I have replaced the deck bearings and clutch bearings. The deck belt turns easily.Still no better. The pto engages properly and does not stall the engine when deck belt is disconnected. This should rule out an electrical problem. The deck is using two high lift blades for a bagger. The motor is 11HP. HELP!!

Answer
My first thought was a seat switch, but since it doesn't die with belt off that has been eliminated.   Try this,  engage the choke and then engage the pto.  This works alot of times.  If you can get the deck to engage with the choke on turn the bottom screw on the carb out about 1/2 turn.   Are you turning the deck on at WFO, (Wide Freaking Open).  If not start doing it.  This engine is old enough that it might not have enough balls to turn the deck at idle.
If this doesn't work reply back and we can go deeper.

When I hear hoof beats I don't look for zebras, I look for horses.  In other words, lets eliminate the easy things first.
