Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Removal of rear wheels, mtd riding lawn mower, cotter pin

Question
I have an MTD riding lawn mower, model GT1846 and can't remove the left rear wheel after removing cotter pin and key.  If have sprayed WD40 and to no avail.  Even put pressure on inside of wheel with prey bar and center tapping the axle like one can to remove a flywheel.

Answer
The rim is rusted to the axle shaft.  Kryoil or Zep penatrating oil may help loosen the rusted parts.  I sometimes jack/tilt the mower so the penetrating oil sits in the rim/axle hole.  Over a period of days I gently tap on the center of the rim and axle to work the penetrating oil into the rusted parts.

Worse case you may have to cut the rim to remove.
Try the penetrating oil and soak for several days.
Let me know if you still can't remove the wheel.
