Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Scotts L2548, soleniod, volt meter

Question
QUESTION: The mower clutch will not engage and the starter stays on even with the key in the off position. Is the solenoid bad?

ANSWER: Did the belt come off the clutch?  Is something binding preventing the clutch from operating.

It could be a bad solenoid but I would start by checking the battery and cables/wires first.
Do you have a volt meter?
Let me know.

QUESTION: I have a volt meter. I have 12 volts coming off the solenoid with the key in the off position.Nothing is binding. What kind of volts should the wire at the clutch have? Thanks...

Answer
If there is any voltage on the switch it would be 12 volts DC.  With the mower off, dis-connect the battery.

Using you continunity tester on your meter, measure the continunity between the 2 big posts on the soleniod where the battery and starter cable are connected.

Do you have continuinty or zero/low ohms.
Let me know.
