Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Lawn Tractor wont run unless choke is closed, twin cylinder engine, briggs and stratton

Question
We have a White GT180 18H  Briggs & Stratton twin cylinder engine. My wife was mowing ran out of gas, put gas in it next day, tractor started, idles, but when you open choke it spits and sputters for a few seconds then dies, also as soon as you engage it, it dies immediatly. I was thinking carb. but not sure where to find it.  Can you please give us suggestions. thanks.

Answer
The carb is behind the air filter, bolted to the intake manifold.  I hate to say it Ken, but, if you you don't know where the carb even is, you can't make this repair.  If you want to give it a try you need to buy this book written by Briggs and Stratton.

This book is written for the guy who's car breaks down on the highway , jumps out and opens the hood to take a look, even though he doesn't even know where the carb is.

This book will at least give you a fighting chance.

Good luck.
