Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): honda generator, carburetor jets, wolverine lake

Question
Dear John, I am back to ask another question. I have a honda ex-1000 generator. It has not been started for a couple years. When i stored it, I just let it run out of fuel. I put some gas in it, and it started right up. There is fuel leaking out of a couple drain lines, heavily, while the machine is running. what do you think is the cause. What should I do to fix. Also what is the proper way to store a small engine. thanks again Greg B. Wolverine Lake, MI

Answer
Hello Greg:

From your Description, it Sounds like the Carburetor Needle Valve is Not Seating Properly and the Excess Gas is Coming Out the Carburetor Bowl Vent. You May need to Soak and Clean the Carburetor. If the Engine MUST Set, then I Usually I Run a Half Tank of 2 Cycle Fuel Mix (32:1) Through the Engine Until the Engine Quits. Then Place the Choke On and Try to Start the Engine Several Times to Finish Clearing Any Remaining Fuel Mix from the Carburetor Jets. The Oil in the Fuel Mix Coats the Internal Components and Helps Prevent Corrosion and Lubricates. Send me the Model Numbers Off the Engine, Please. With these I can Locate the Proper Manual and Better Assist you. Hope this Helps. I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Let me Know What Happens, Please. Thanks.

Good Luck
