Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): fuse blowing out on tractor, craftsman lawn tractor, w kohler

Question
Hi I have a craftsman lawn tractor 917.272066, 16hp w/kohler cv460 engine. The fuse blows out every time I turn the tractor on.  I currently have a wire wrapped around the contacts on the fuse and put the fuse back in. Do you know why would the fuse keep blowing out, also the battery is not charging. I put in a new battery and the battery is still not charging.

Answer
Hello Hector:

Disconnect the Stator from the Harness and the Fuse Should Stop Blowing. Replace the Stator. The Battery Not Charging is a Bad Stator and if the Stator is Shorted it will Blow the Fuse. Bad Idea about the Wire Around the Fuse. You can Burn Up the Harness. Remove the Blower Housing (metal engine cover). Remove the Flywheel Nut or Starter Cup (Depends on the Model). Now Attach a Steering Wheel Puller to the Flywheel Using the Threaded Holes in the Flywheel. Tighten the Puller. Now Hit the Puller with a Hammer. Repeat this Procedure Until the Flywheel Pops Up or can be Lifted Off the Crankshaft. Then Replace the Stator and Reassemble the Engine. To View the Mower Go to this Site Addy, http://www3.sears.com/ and Enter the Model Numbers in the Upper Left Search Box and Click Go. Then Visually Verify the Equipment and Click Continue. From this Page you can View Diagrams or Parts Lists for you Equipment. You can View a Breakdown/IPL of this Engine at this Site Addy, http://www.smallenginepartswarehouse.com/parts.asp and Select the Shop Online Parts Look Up. Then Select the Model Tab. Then Select the OEM and Enter the Model Numbers CVS460-26509. Then Double Click on the Model in the Results Area. Now you can Select the Section of the Engine you Wish to View. Hope this Helps. I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Let me Know What Happens, Please. Thanks.
