Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): MuCulloch 246, mcculloch cabrio 246, cow pie

Question
I have a McCulloch Cabrio 246 brush cutter, used for 2 seasons about 8 hours. It has never been good at starting, getting progressively worse and now does not fire at all. I have changed the fuel, bought a new spark plug, checked the carb and the gas is getting into the cylinder.I cut the HT lead back a little and refitted the plug cap. The spark does not look strong and I'm not convinced there is a spark on every pull of the starter or under compression. The plug just gets wet from the fuel. Do you think there is a fault with the ignition coil, can it be tested? Should I just buy a new mower?

Answer
In the power equipment industry, McCulloch is a secret code word for ,CRAP, I'm talking flaming cow pie turd.

If you can afford a new mower do it.
If you can't, replace the coil and see what happens.

The coil can be tested, the only problem is if you don't have the exact meter they use in the Mac manual it won't really tell you anything.

Sorry Lawrie, "the Truthmeister" tells it like it is.  The only brand of equipment my shop WILL NOT WORK ON are Ryobi and Mac.
