Engine starts and runs but has no power. When cutting blades are lowered for lawn cutting the engine slows down and will stall if the cutting blades are not turned off.
Even if the throttle is increased the engine will stall and the driver smells gas. This John Deere machine is about 5 years old. Do you think the problem could be a partially choked exhaust.

No!!!!
You have a dead cylinder.  Replace the plugs and see if it gets better.
If it doesn't improve pull the plug wire off of one cyl. if it stays the same you have a dead cylinder.

Check the dead side for spark. if you have spark you have a stuck valve, if no spark, you need a coil
