Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Gas and oil mixture, oil mixture, cycle oils

Question
Can oil for a boat motor, like Evinrude or Mercury, also be used for a chainsaw, blower, etc., and vice versa?  Thanks.

Answer
Hello Roy:

A 2 Cycle Engine is a 2 Cylce Engine. Most 2 Cycle Oils will Work as Long as the Ratio is Properly Mixed. There are Manufactures that Will Not Warranty the Product Unless you Use a Certain 2 Cycle Oil, but Once the Warranty is Over you can Use Whatever Oil you Wish as Long as you Use the Same Oil to Gas Ratio. I Use 32:1 Ratio on all My 2 Cycle Engines. Some Call for 40:1 But Some of My Equipment Calls for 32:1 and the 40:1 would Cause Engine Damage to these. The Little Extra Oil to Gas Does Not Hurt. It is When you Get Too Much Gas to Oil Ratio that Causes Engine Damage. Hope this Helps. I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Let me Know What Happens, Please. Thanks.

Good Luck
