Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): John Deere STX 38 PTO switch, john deere stx 38, plug ins

Question
Hello John - About 10 min after mowing through some shallow water with my JD STX38 the blades stopped. The PTO switch came out melted and smoking when I tried to pull it up to re-engauge the blades. I replaced the PTO switch, but no help. I followed the wire up to a "bell like" part on a shaft coming down from the motor. The plastic plug into this part was also melted. Suggested next step? Any reply is appreciated. Thanks, Dibrell

Answer
Hello Dibrell:

No Worries. Lets Get on the Same Page, Please. You can View a Breakdown/IPL of the Mower at this Site Addy, http://jdpc.deere.com/jdpc/servlet/com.deere.u90490.partscatalog.view.servlets.H... and Enter the Model Numbers and Click Find. Then Select the Sectional File. Then Select the Section of the Mower you Wish to View Online. I will Use this Breakdown/IPL for Reference. I Selected the Yellow Deck Mower. If the Plug-Ins Attached to the Wires are Melted, then Check Check the Wires Carefully for Melted Places. Be Sure there is No Shorts in the Harness. Replace the Connector at the PTO (part #T28586) and You May Have to Replace the PTO Also. Hope this Helps. I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Let me Know What Happens, Please. Thanks.

Good Luck
