Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): STX38 PTO clutch/mower blades not turning, starter switch, hp engine

Question
QUESTION: John,
I have a problem with the clutch that engages the blades. I pull the switch and nothing is happening. I do have 12 volts at the wires to the clutch when I pull the switch to engage them and turn the mower switch to on. Is this a back clutch? If so how do I find out the PN? The motor is a Koler 12.5hp.
Thank You for your help,
Mark

ANSWER: Hello Mark:

If you have Power to the PTO, then Remove the PTO Ground and Clean it Good. If this Does Not Correct the Problem, then the PTO is Most Likely Bad. The Black Deck STX38 With the 12.5 Hp Engine has the PTO Clutch Part Number AM119683. You can View a Breakdown/IPL of the Mower at this Site Addy, http://jdpc.deere.com/jdpc/servlet/com.deere.u90490.partscatalog.view.servlets.H and Enter the Model Numbers and Click Find. Then Select the Sectional File. Then Select the Section of the Mower you Wish to View Online. Hope this Helps. I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Let me Know What Happens, Please. Thanks.

QUESTION: John,
I found out I can get the blades turning if I have the starter switch turned a little past where the switch rests once the motor is running. Looks like a bad starter switch. My bad as I tryed to mow my front and back yard till smoke started coming out of the starter. Guess with the switch turned this way the starter stayed engaged but I couldn't hear it with the blades engaged.
