Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Scotts riding mower, stators, stator

Question
GX2548To14597, When i am sitting on my mower and engage the cutting deck, it does not engage, if i get off the seat for a second it engages but dies , i have replaced the pressure switch under the seat. The local JD people said that it is a ground that is going into the PTO area, i pulled the connection there and it seems fine. what else should i look for

Answer
Hello Ed:

Jumper the PTO Switch with a 30amp Toggle Switch. If the Switch is Good, then Replace the Switch or Install the Toggle.I Prefer to Use the Proper Replacements from an Aftermarket Supplier. What is the Voltage Out to the Battery. With the Engine at Full Throttle, Check the Battery Voltage. Is the Voltage Less than 13.2vdc? If yes, then The Stator or or the Regulator is Bad. When you Stand up you is the PTO Still In the Engaged Position? If yes, then Check All the Ground Points of the Harness. According to the Breakdown/IPL, This Engine has the 15amp Stator; so the Amps Are Not the Problem. Some of the JD and Scotts Mowers had a Recall on the Stator. Apparently the Amperage was too Low and was Burning Out the Stators and Not the Regulators. The Electric PTOs Draw a Lot of Current. Yours May be the Regulator. If the Voltage is Good to the Battery, then Check the Connections at the Engine Ground. Over the Years There have Been Many Times This has Been the Cause of this Problem. Hope this Helps. I am here if you Require more Assistance. Let me know what Happens, Please. Thanks.

Good Luck
