Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): B&S valve settings, compression stroke, plug hole

Hello, I have a 17.5 hp intek engine on a scotts 42" lawn tractor. I'm trying to find TDC on the compression stroke. wahts the easiest way to do this.

Trying to adjust the valves eh?

To find TDC stick a pencil in the plug hole and turn the engine until the piston is at the top.

To adjust the valves, turn the flywheel until the valve goes down and then adjust the other.  repeat for the other valve/s.
