Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Homelite trimmer head, phillips screw driver, sledge hammer

Question
QUESTION: Hi I feel really stupid asking this but.... I replace my trimmer head 2 years ago with a universal head with the blades only because I always make a mess of the string. I'm trying to replace the universal head with a different one and for the life of me I can not get the head off and it's no tools required! What am I missing lol. I tried right ,left head push down and turn and nothing moves.

Thanks

ANSWER: Hello Marsha:

The Trimmer Head is Removed by Locking the Shaft Using the Hole Provided. A Small Nail or Phillips Screw Driver will Hold the Shaft. This Hole is Located Above the Trimmer Head on the Collar. This Collar will Line Up with a Hole in the Shaft and Lock the Cable (using the nail or screw driver) so the Trimmer Head can be Removed by Turning the Trimmer Head Reverse of the Operational Rotation, ie. If the Trimmer Head Turns Clockwise when you are Holding the Trimmer, then the Trimmer Head will Turn Clockwise when you are Looking at the Trimmer Head for Removal. Hope this Helps. I am here if you Require more Assistance. Let me know what Happens, Please. Thanks.

QUESTION: Hi,

Now I really do feel like an idiot. I am not finding the hole to in order to lock the cable. I can however hold t ithgt enough by hand in order to turn the head and move it no more than maybe 1/4 inch and it won't go any further. I can't access the bolt on the bottom of the head either to remove it that way because it has a collar built up around it and there isn't enough clearance to get a socket wrench in it. I'm about ready for the sledge hammer to it lol.
Thanks

Answer
Hello Again Marsha:

LOL  I Feel that Way a Lot. LOL  Ok. You have the Hexagon Grip on the Trimmer Head. You Should be Able to Use a Large (12" I think) Adjustable Wrench to Grip this Type of Cable End. The Trimmer Head has Seized to the Cable End. You May have to take it to the Shop if it has Seized Really Good. I Use Never Seize  on All the Trimmer Heads. It helps Prevent Rust and Corrision from Forming in the Threads. Hope this Helps. I am here if you Require more Assistance. Let me know what Happens, Please. Thanks.
