Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): kohler 12, garden tractors, wheelie bar

Question
i have pulling garden tractors . what is the best valve setting for pulling power?

Answer
I'm assuming you have a cast iron Kohler. K241?

My store has a pulling tractor and from my experience the valve clearance doesn't matter. We have tried them all.  We now stick to .008 intake, .010 exhaust.

We have found retarding the timing a couple of degrees really helps, if you can get it started.

Face it though Mark, do you really have a HP problem when pulling.  We never do.  Are problems are always related to getting the tractor to "hook up".  We have started to run bar tires on the rear inflated to about 4 PSI.  We also have a "wheelie" bar to keep the front end down.  We run 4 inch slicks on the front.

Good luck!  Full pull buddy, full pull.
