Question
crank has no spark how do you check points and coil.
tractor was given to us the only info we have is that it may be a mtd lawn flite 8/34.Is there any manuals out on line that we may try to get we are Canadian.

Answer
Hello Jack:

Send me the Model Numbers Off the Engine, Please. With these I can Locate the Proper Manual and Better Assist you. the Model Numbers May be STAMPED in the Blower Housing (metal engine cover) above the Spark Plug. I May be Able to Locate a Breakdown/IPL of the Engine. Without the Model Numbers it will be Next to Impossible to Locate a Breakdown/IPL of the Mower. However, I can Give you a Site Addy, that you can Search Manually for a Mower that Matches Close to yours. The Site Addy is,  http://www.smallenginepartswarehouse.com/parts.asp and Select the Shop Online Parts Look Up. Then Select the OEM (MTD) Then Select the Category of Lawn Equipment Breakdown/IPLs you wish to View. To Check the Coil, the Point Set Must be Good. This Engine May have a Magnetron Ignition. If So, then it has No Point Set. To Check the Magnetron, Remove the Blower Housing and Discoonnect the Shut Off Wire from the Coil. Turn the Engine and Check for Spark. If No Spark, then the Coil is Bad. If Spark, then a Switch or Wire is Bad. Hope this Helps. I am here if you Require more Assistance. Let me know what Happens, Please. Thanks.

Good Luck
