Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): B&S Timing Marks, gear teeth, cam gear

Question
I have a B&S Model 12H812 engine. I just replaced a broken connecting rod and in the process removed the cam gear without marking it. There appears to be numerous markings on the plastic cam gear itself and the crankshaft gear has both a keyway and a small hole in it. Can you tell me what timing marks I should be lining up? I gave it my best guess, but the motor only backfired once and will not run. Thanks in advance for any advice you may have!

Answer
Hello Craig:

On the Cam there Should be a Place on the Outer Ring with the Teeth that Looks like a Hot Nail was Applied to the Gap in the Teeth (u Shaped). This Matches the Hole or Dimple that Marks the Crank Tooth. The Marked Crank Gear Tooth Matches the Recess Marked Between the Cam Gear Teeth. Hope this Helps. I am here if you Require more Assistance. Let me know what Happens, Please. Thanks.

Good Luck
