Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): allis chalmers t-816 lawn tractor, allis chalmers, cyl engine

Question
paul ,i have a allis chalmers t-816 w/a 16hp twin cyl briggs i/c motor, i got it runni'n good but when it has been runni'n for a while and heats up it seems to loose all fuel and cutts off ,think its a fuel pump or something else? thank  chris

Answer
Does it have spark when it dies.  You have to check this for the right answer.

If it has spark you know it's fuel.  Since this is a 2 cyl engine I'm guessing it does.  Fuel pump failure is very rare.  Test this by hooking up a different tank and gravity feeding the fuel to the engine.  If it runs you know it's not the pump.

My first guess would be something in the tank plugging the fuel pickup tube.  When the tractor runs it compacts the crap in the tube and blocks the flow.  When it sits with the engine off the crap settles back into the tank. This is very common
