Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): 16hp Briggs & Stratton will not start when hot, briggs stratton engine, briggs stratton

Question
I have a older Turf Trac garden tractor (MTD model 140-820-502) with a 16 hp Briggs & Stratton engine Model 401707, Type 0134 01, code 8002141 with an electric start. The engine starts fine when cold and the choke is pulled. The engine will stay running with no problem (choke position about half way out..................) for as long as necessary. If I shut the engine off; there is no way that can get it started again until it completly cools off. It dosen't matter what position the choke is in. It dosen't even try to fire no matter how long I crank it over. Spark plugs are clean and dry. Engine runs fine when it is running. Thanks for any help you may have. Wayne

Answer
Hello Wayne:

When the Engine Doesn't Start, Does it have Fire to the Plugs? Usually this Problem is Caused by the Coil/Ignition Module/Armature Heating Up and Grounding out the Fire to the Plugs. Check for Fire at the Plugs when this Happens. If No Fire, then Replace the Coil/Ignition Module/Armature. You can View a Breakdown/IPL of the Engine at this Site Addy, http://www.outdoordistributors.com/ and Select the B. Then Select Briggs and Stratton. Then Select Don't have Part Numbers. Then Select the File #40.  Then Select the Folder #401700. If the Plugs are Firing, then Remove, Disassemble and Soak the Carburetor Overnight in Carburetor Cleaner (I use Gunk). Then Blow Out the Passages with Compressed Air. Install a New Kit if Required. Hope this Helps. I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Let Me Know What Happens, Please. Thanks.

Good Luck
