Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): 12.5 hp murray riding mower, ac coil, lighting system

Question
I am servicing a Murray riding mower oil, filters etc.Anyway, everything on the mower works fine except the headlights. The ignition switch will not put juice to the purple headlight wire when it is turned to the correct position or when it is running.I replaced the ignition with no success. The bulbs are good and I can jump power to them and they will work.Any insight to this problem would be much appreciated. Thanks!!!!!!!

Answer
Most Murray mowers have an AC lighting system. The stator feeds the power to the lights when the engine is running.  If all the wiring is in order you have a burnt out AC coil in your stator.

My only insight on this is WHY ARE YOU MOWING IN THE DARK!
