Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Hoda hrx carb problem, internal passages, honda hrx

Question
Hey John,

I got a Honda hrx for free and does not run. I started messing with it, put a new spark plug in it and did the compression test.  I finally messed with the carb, and cleaned out the float bowl. Put new gas in it and tried to start it. Did not work. I took out the air filter and sprayed starting fluid in it and it fired right up and died.  It has a shut off valve, but that was in the on position. Gas is getting to the carb, because I took the float bowl off again and fresh gas was in it. So, the gas is not getting to the engine. It has an automatic choke. All you have to do is put the lever in the choke position. Is it maybe not choking? I ran out of options. Any ideas?

Answer
Hello Andrew:

Remove, Disassemble and Soak the Carburetor Overnight in Carburetor Cleaner (I use Gunk). Then Blow Out the Passages with Compressed Air. Install a New Kit if Required. The Internal Passages are Restricted with Varnish that Gas will Form Over Time. Soaking the Carburetor is the Only Way to Properly Clean the Carburetor. Hope this Helps. I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Let Me Know What Happens, Please. Thanks.

Good Luck
