Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Craftsman Lawn Tractor 22 hp Briggs Intek V spark on only one side, craftsman lawn tractor, briggs stratton

Question
I have a Craftsman 22hp riding lawn tractor, Model No. 917.272280 that will all of a sudden lose power. It has a Briggs & Stratton Intek V Twin Model 446777 engine. It will keep running but only on one cylinder. When it loses power, one side will not have any spark. It will happen sporadically. I checked both coils with an ohmmeter and they both were between 4600 and 5200. I tried to use the wiring diagram to see where the problem is but am unable to decifer the cause of the problem. I cleaned the switch interlock, as one time when it happpened, I jiggled the wiring harness and the plug suddenly had spark and the engine ran like it should. It seemed to help but will still lose spark, albeit with less frequency. Any help would be appreciated.

Answer
Hello Tim:

Change the Coil on the Dead Cylinder. It is Heating Up and Miss Firing. Heat is the Key here. Usually the Coil will Quit Firing the Plug Until Cooled, then it Will Start Firing Again. I have had Plenty of Bad Coils Do as You Described Also. Hope this Helps. I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Let Me Know What Happens, Please. Thanks.

Good Luck
