Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): riding mower, variable speed pulley, drive belts

Question
Hi John,
I got the carb problem fixed, engine runs like a top, thanks! I'm working on a White Riding Mower model 13AA672F190, Serial 1I238H10105. When releasing the clutch/brake pedal, the unit will take of at a slow speed and then increase to the correct speed after a short time. I also notice the pedal comes up from the depressed position at a slow rate, corresponding with the speed. The belts (it has two drive belts) look ok and I'm not sure what it could be. Any help would be greatly appreciated. thank you.
Dan

Answer
Hello Again Daniel:

Great!! Glad I Could Help. Now for the White Riding Mower. The OEM is MTD. You can View a Breakdown/IPL of the Mower at this Site Addy, http://www.buymtdonline.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Home_BuyMTDOnline_10101_19... and Select White Outdoor from the Parts Catalog OEM Selection on the Left. The Select Use Our Detailed Parts Finder on the Right. Then Enter the Model Numbers 13AA672F190 and Click Search. Then Double Click on the Model in the Results Area. Select the Lower Frame and Wheels File. I Used this for a Reference. All the Pivot Points and Moveable Idler Brackets Need to Be Lubricated and Moving Freely. Breakdown #30 (Idler Bracket) can be Sticking. Breakdown #67 The Variable Speed Torque Bracket and #82 Variable Speed Bracket Assembly can be Sticking. Check the Springs and Ensure they are in Good Condition Also. Check the Variable Speed Pulley and Ensure the Center Sleeve Moves Freely. From your Description, it Sounds like the Variable Speed Pulley or the Brackets are the Cause of the Problem. Hope this Helps. I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Let Me Know What Happens, Please. Thanks.

Good Luck
