Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Sears LT 2000 Lawn Tractor, lt 2000, gas cap

Question
I have a Sears LT 2000 lawn tractor w/ a Kohler 17.5 engine Model #917.273180.  I have been plagued with the problem of the tractor running great for 20-25 minutes and then it shuts down like its starved for fuel. It will not restart until I wait a few minutes.  I've had it to a repair shop twice but to no avail. When I disconnect the fuel line on the carb side of the fuel filter, it seems to flow just fine. This persistant problem, along w/ a necessary carb rebuild, on a unit w/ a total of 60 hours has just about done my patience in.  Has this problem been reported on these units before?  Any suggestions?

Answer
Hello Terry:

Try a New Gas Tank Cap. It Sounds like the Gas Cap Isn't Venting the Tank. Removing the Line Will ALWAYS Show Good Flow because Air is Able to Enter the Tank through the Hose when you Disconnect it. The Next Time it Starts to Quit Loosen the Gas Cap and See if it Corrects the Problem. If it Does, then Purchase a New Cap or Clean the Cap. Also have you Checked the Spark Plug for Fire when this Happens? The Coil May be Going Bad. I'm Leaning Towards the Gas Cap. Hope this Helps. I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Let Me Know What Happens, Please. Thanks.

Good Luck
