Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Trouble with 11hp Tecumseh -no power, coleman powermate generator, propane regulator

Question
I converted my Coleman powermate generator with 11hp Tecumseh engine to propane . It ran flawlessly after hurricane Wilma. In 2005 there werent any hurricanes. I cant pull the cord due to a heart condition. So I changed the flywheel which has a ring gear and added a starter. It doesnt idle right and has no power. Before I never used the choke now when I engage the choke it almost runs smoothly but it still isnt right. I have some trouble setting the gap on the magneto. What could have changed from 2004. Unless the gap of the magneto is critical. What do you think?

Answer
The mag gap is noncritical.
Sorry, propane answers are tough. I live in Missouri and we have tornadoes, Greensborough, KS for example. With tornadoes the gas stations are still open. If the plug doesn't turn black with the choke on keep running it that way. If the plugs turn dry powdery black you probably need a new propane regulator. It's also possible you have the wrong flywheel. Double check that you have the correct flywheel.
